一般情況下，潤滑方法分為油和脂潤滑兩種:
油(oil) ：
適用于超高速運轉。
油對于軸承和油潤滑的元件安裝在同一機座中裝置是良好的潤滑方法。
適用于超高工作溫度。
油對于使用集中供油系統作為輔助機械的場合是良好的潤滑方法。
油對于軸承力矩有要求的場合是良好的潤滑方法。
脂(Grease)：
脂很容易保持在軸承中而不用精心制作的附件。
脂給予長時期的服務而不需要重新更換或檢查。
脂增加在附件中隔離污物的有效性。
閉式密封軸承在制造廠即可填入潤滑脂。
